These pictures are 20 years old. In 1991my brother was a young conscript in the city of Ceuta in north Africa, as tank gunner in an armored cavalry regiment, the "Montesa n.3". Then in service there was the american M48A5E. The first M48s arrived to the spanisharmy in 1965, and were updated to "E" version in 1978-79. The M48 served in the "Montesa" regiment from 1978to mid 90s, when was replaced by M60A3s.
The conscript servicewas replaced fifthteen years ago by a professional army. This post is humble dedicated to all conscript soldiers who served before in our army, specially to my brother Pedro.

Nissan Terrano II 2.7TD, local police from Berriozar (Navarre), 2010. The spanish Terrano II was built in the Nissan factory of Barcelona from 1993 to 2006. The round front lights reveals that this vehicle in particular is one of the 2nd series of the Terrano II model, produced between 1996 and 1999. His license plates are from 1999.

This beauty, a Seat 1430 FU, was photoed a week ago here in Pamplona, and with license plates from 1975, is one of the last cars of this model, built in Martorell (Barsselona)from 1969 to 1975.
The only "extras" of this very well preserved car are the two reversing lights, the side mirrors and the license plates, made in the actual style.

Seat Altea XL, Mossos de Esquadra, Pineda de Mar, Catalonia. Here in Spain some regions had his own police, wich asumes some tasks of the other "national" polices, as oficial buildings protection, traffic,riots... In Catalonia are called the Mossos de Esquadra.
These vehicle, photoed last mont is the long version of the Seat Altea, a car in the roads since 2004 and built at Martorell, Catalonia. The Mossos police uses them since late 2005.

Lebanese medevac

Here is a ilustration that I made for mi friend Moustafa Assad, that he requested me for his book Blue-Steel III about lebanese M113 family. In fact, from the photos that this track was based, it's a former mortar carrier M106 converted to an armored ambulance. It is pictured during the 2006 israeli offensive in the south of Lebanon.

In this case, this blue Ebro was photoed some months ago in the outskirts of Pamplona, with license plates from 1973. There are near 30 years between these two shots. They are Pamplona local police cars . The black and white picture is a Seat 124 station wagon version (more on Seat 124s here)in the early 80's. The color ones are a Peugeot Expert and a little Smart, both from 2008. Vehicle colors and uniforms have changed. In next posts I'll show you vehicles from policial units of my country, be alert...

A bunch of dusty M113s of Light Infantry Brigade "San Marcial" parked in their home base at Araca (Alava).

Since the use of modern military badges in the spanish army, the vehicles used by the army had been used as central motive in patches. Here are a graphic example, the well known M113. Since the arrival of this APC to Spain in 1969 his image is used by mechanized forces as in these three types of breast insignias:

Some months ago I saw a tunned Seat 124 in my town, Huarte. Yesterday, I photoed another car of the same model in Pamplona, but now in his original configuration. This very well preserved vehicle is from 1977. Enjoy with it, very few cars of this model are in this neat condition today.

Little red thing

In the last months of 1960, a new vehicle emerged from the assembly lines of the Moto Vespa factory (Madrid). The Vespacar was a three-wheeled cart, inspired by the italian Piaggio Ape model. With a load capacity of 400 kg and a velocity of 60 km/h, the Vespacar, also known as "motocarro" (wagon-cycle)soon will be a very popular light transport here in Spain, and were a common image in the roads during the next 20 years.

Today, 50 years later, the famous desingn and T-shirt factory of Kukusumuxu operates a fully restored Vespacar here in Pamplona, and so I can show you some pictures of this little red beauty.

Urban guerrillas!

Here are a pair of jeeps painted in urban camo!! Photoed some days ago near my home, these two dusty and muddy Suzuki Samurais from the years 1987 and 1988. The Suzuki Santana Samurai was a 4x4 vehicle made in the factory of Santana at Linares (Jaen) between 1985 and 2003. The large number of Samurais that were made during these 18 years are one of the most ever production of a vehicle here in Spain.

Christmas armour

Here is one of my works, made two years ago for a book, but finally never published. Is a UN spanish BMR during a patrol to provide gifts for children in some villages of the spanish TAOR. Also is pictured the insignia of the spanish legion contingent in these days, the christmas of 2006. The BMR and legionnaires are specially dressed for the ocassion.

This year the world conmemorates the fall of Berlin Wall.I remember then a little car begins to move through the roads of western Germany: the Trabbi.
The Trabant was a low cost car, with a resin-made body, produced by VEB Sachsering Automobilwerke Zwickau in Saxony. Between 1957 and 1991 three million cars were produced in 4 main models. Even the GDR army had their "jeep" version, with canvas top and without side doors.
My friend Luis Pitarch found this neat yellow Trabbi some days ago in Valencia. Is the last model of the saga, a Trabant 1.1 Limousine. His license plates are from Hungary and dated from the early 90's.

Here is an old sketch that I have found today in a missing moleskine. I realized it a year ago, and is a one of the first Wyllis received in Spain through the US military aid in the 50's. The insignia is from infantry regiment "Wad-Ras 55", one of the units of Armoured Division "Brunete". The overall colour was, of course,olive drab.

Some days ago I can shot my camera over this white beauty. Under the morning rain this tunned Seat bright like sun.
The Seat 124 was built in Spain from 1968 to 1980. This car was the license built italian Fiat 124. The model of the pictures is the Seat 124 D Especial 1430, wich was built from 1976 onwards in the factory of Landaben-Pamplona, very near my home, and so was also known as Seat 124 "Pamplona". With his powerful engine, it was capable to speed up very hurry, and was nicknamed "La Loca" (She-Crazy) by young gangsmen, that used them in these years to escape from the police.
The license plates of this car are dated from 1976, 33 years very well carried.

Although his markings are for Patton's 3rd US Army, this belgian Dodge that I photoed in 2001 in Normandy is a post war item.
From 1946 onwards, the Power Wagon WM300 4x4 series replaced the succesful Dodge WC family. This is one of the sons of Dodge factory. It's a B3 PW126, command and liaison vehicle used by the belgian army. A lot of countries were military supplied by the US, and part of this aid were the 17.956 Power Wagons that were built for non-US service.

This is my last car illustration, a cartoon of a Simca 5, the french license build of the italian Fiat Topolino. Made in the 30's, this very little car was used by the french army, but also after the german invasion of 1940 by the germans, and ever after the 1944 liberation by the allied forces. In this case, is a liaison car of the french 13eme Dragons negociating a muddy trail in the border with Belgium during the "Phoney war", winter 39-40.

"Mack the knife"

During World War II, the Mack Truck Company of Allentown, PA, supplied more than 35,000 trucks to the Allied war effort. The all-wheel-drive 7 ½ ton Model NO saw extensive use transporting men, supplies, and large weapons, like 155mm guns. I took these photos in 2004 at Ste. Mere Eglise, France.

I saw this strange vehicle a year ago here in Pamplona. Quickly, I took some photos with my phone (Nokia 6120). Recently, I saw it again running through the streets, and decideed to put the pictures here. This is a Steyr-Puch 700 AP Haflinger, built by Austria from 1959 to 1974, a popular mountain vehicle in these years, and used by the austrian and swedish armies.

Is avery well restored Dennis fire engine from the Madrid Fire Dept. These trucks of the 40's were purchased in the 50's from Great Britain vehicle stocks.
This picture is a humble tribute from this blog to the six firemen dead this week while they was fighting the fires in the mountains of Spain.
The name of these heroes: Jordi More, Jaume Arpa, Ramón Espinet, David Duaigües, Ramón Conejero and Pau Costa.

Here is another great shot taken by my friend Luis Pitarch in Kosovo. This little cabrio is a Zastava 750, the popular italian Fiat 600 made under license from 1962 onwards in Kragujevac, Yugoslavia. Since the start of the Balkans conflict the production was ended (the license was given to Tofas in Turkey where production continued until 1995)and Kragujevac produced armament until april 1999 when the factory was bombed by OTAN planes.
This funny car was painted in camouflage and used probably by militias. His license plate, barely visible, I think it's from the serb municipality of Priboj (license code: PB in cyrillic alphabet).

The total production of the famous Sherman tank by thepowerful military industry of the USA totalized more of 50.000 units, mostly during the Wolrd War years. After the war, a number of these Shermans were sold to private users. Here, a pair of these tanks, used by a constructor, are demolishing in the late 50's a house at Patterson, New Jersey.

A car was en route from Nairobi to Mombasa when suddenly a rhino, whith a wheight of more of 500 kg., crossed the road. The violent collision caused the death of the animal. This photo shows the poor rhino and his executor, an american Chevrolet Bel-Air 1955.

B-17 bomber

The Flying Fortress was the most know plane used by the United States in his bomb attacks over Germany during the Second World War. His crew was 10 men. During the missions over Europe, more of 4.500 B-17s were lost. This is a sketch made with colored pencils. It depicts a bomber of the 381st Bomb Group.

I took this week these photos in Pamplona (Navarra). This autocaravan is one of the survivors of the Commer-Santana van series, built by Santana here in Spain under british license from 1964 to mid-70's. The childs of the 70's loved them because they looked as the police truck of the US TV series "S.W.A.T."!

D-Day

Now here in Spain is June 6th, D-Day. I think that is the best day to start with this blog. All these past years, a lot of people go to Normandy to conmemorate the allied invasion with their historic vehicles, and reenact the troops of this battle. One of them was mi friend Roger. A former fireman of Nantes, Roger always went with their friends of the 15th Cavalry Group reenactment association to Ste. Marie Eglise.
Sadly, some weeks ago Roger passed away. Now, his association's vivouac area, Camp Riley is more little than other years, and his jeep and smile will be missed. This blog is dedicated to him. Good bye, Roger!
